ROSE J. FAIRCHILD-AUTHOR

Fan Fiction and Fan Art Guidelines and Policies

Technology

Technology has both advantages and disadvantages. While there are individuals who opt to use AI to “write” their stories, as a writer and a published author, my stories are entirely created by me using the creative and sometimes deranged powers of my own mind.

AI relies on art and information created by real human beings—people who have put their heart and soul into their work to express their creativity. When AI is used, it is not delivering something original. It is taking things from existing works. Most often, the original creators have not given permission to have their work used in AI “creations.” Furthermore, those human creators are not compensated.

In sum, it’s plagiarism. Using AI to “write” your story is, essentially, stealing.

If you choose to write fan fiction or a derivative work, actually write it using your own mind, words, and vision. Using AI to “write” fan fiction is not writing; it’s using technology to produce an end product—like a piece of unremarkable plastic at the end of a manufacturing line.
